Any good advice on sponge painting and good color combo's to use?

Never had tried it before, gonna be brave and do my kitchen, anyone have any suggestions on colors to use? i think i just wanna do a base coat and one color on top. i've always had a thing for yellow and thought maybe a blue or gray. can't decide. also do you have to mix in a glaze?Any good advice on sponge painting and good color combo's to use?
Yellow and blue are a great combination for a French country kitchen. You can make your own glaze by mixing 1 part paint (latex or acrylic), 1 part water and 1 part Floetrol (you can get this in the painting aisle at the home improvement centers). It is easier to do the technique if you pour the paint into a plastic sturdy plate to accomodate the sponge. Have newspaper available to blot off excess paint from the sponge. Start with a damp sponge and work in small areas 3 x 3 and step away from your work. You want the sponge effect to give you texture over the base coat so be careful not to let the paint get muddy or too coated in one area. Be careful not to get ';fingerprints'; through the sponge on the wall. Corners and the area where the wall meets the ceiling are tricky, too. Often I see what is known as a hatband, where amateurs leave a band in the corners and at the ceiling that is not sponged. If you are not sponging the ceiling or adjoining wall, tape them off so that you can sponge right into the corner and ceiling. Fun project, enjoy!Any good advice on sponge painting and good color combo's to use?
Sponging is the easiest decorative finish to master. You can sponge with paint or tinted glaze on a color base.

Sponging off is a faux finishing technique similar to sponging. However, for sponging off, first you apply the paint or glaze on the walls, then you remove it with the sponge before it dries.
Don't know anything about the actual sponge painting, but as for colors, yellow and blue or gray don't really go well together!! yellow is warm and blue and gray are cool colors; they clash!! how about yellow and white, or yellow and coral, peach, tan, or sage or light green?
ooooo pink and brown togeater, may sound a little gurley but it wont look it!!! hey you said you were going to be brave.... just do a little peace of your wall, and if you dont like it paint it the original colour.... then try wut that girl said with royal blue then gold....just on a little piece of wall, and if you dont like it either then paint over it with the original colour of the wall an think of somthing else :) good luck
I like sponge painting but I don't like using contrasting colors. A nice Terra-Cotta over and orange base or vice-versa would be nice for a kitchen, also an antique yellow over light butter yellow would be calming too.

Really any two shades of your favorite color can be used in a sponge off or sponge on technique and looks quite modern and sophisticated.
My mom and I painted one wall of my bedroom a royal blue, then sponged silver %26amp; gold over it. It turned out really really good.
