How can I create the sponge painting effect without using sponges?

I don't know that you can replicate the exact effect... You can create many other interesting textures though.





Try loosely crumpled newspaper in place of the sponge. It's similar but completely different. A feather duster instead of the sponge is interesting as well.





Try these out on a test surface before you paint your walls obviously :)
